My Take On Cornell University's Failure To Bring Justice To Jane Doe

I am disgusted with how Cornell University has handled the situation involving the 7 hour gang rape of Jane Doe. If you do not know already, a case recently resurfaced from Cornell University where a 20 year old student was gang raped for 7 hours by a group of 7 fraternity brothers. A message was sent in a group chat of 57 students (majority in the Chi Phi fraternity). The message said “Free Pussy”. Not one of the 50 other members in the group chat spoke about what was going on. What was the punishment for the 7 men? You’d think they would be expelled immediately and charges would be pressed. Below are the punishments given:
Charges Pressed by Cornell: 0
Students Expelled: 2
Essays Written: 5
Cornell University decided a proper punishment for this devastating act of evil was for them to write essays. It is truly devastating that an Ivy League University such as Cornell would do such a horrible thing to Jane Doe. The school failed to protect her in the time she needed them most. Her bravery to speak up about this tragedy that happened to her is amazing, but the fact that the school swept it under the rug as if it was nothing is what enrages me.
And to the people defending these men. Let me tell you. They. Are. Rapists. You are defending rapists. “Boys will be boys” but they destroyed this woman's life. “Oh but they have their whole lives in front of them” they raped a woman. Finally to the people fighting to reveal her identity. We do not need to know. She already spoke out about a deeply personal thing that happened to her. If you really want to know her name I’ll tell you. It's Jane Doe.
To Cornell University, press charges. Give Jane the justice she is owed. This is not right. People are upset. People are enraged. Figure yourselves out.
